You can find one of the grand prizes for the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s Millionaire Lottery at the southern tip of 200 Street.
An 8,200 square foot home situated on a half acre property at 20120 1st Ave. — in the High Point Estates development — is a feature prize in a lottery that over the past 21 years has raised more than $50 million for the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.
Funds raised from the lottery will go towards equipment and research at Vancouver General Hospital, UBC Hospital, the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, and Vancouver Community Health Services, explained Angela Chapman, the foundation’s senior vice president.
“We’re very grateful to those who participate and buy a ticket,” Chapman said, during a media event held Wednesday at the South Langley prize home.
“This is an amazing support for the hospital system.”
Chapman said every year, funds raised through lottery ticket sales are used to purchase pieces of equipment that are “absolutely vital” to hospitals, such as ventilator systems for ICUs, specialized equipment to treat burn victims, and equipment to treat cancer patients.
The lottery includes seven grand prize options, including $2.7 million cash.
Prize homes are located in South Langley, White Rock, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Vancouver Island, Kelowna and Osoyoos
The prize home at High Point Estates includes more than $150,000 in luxury furnishings and appliances.
Among its features: five bedrooms, including two master bedrooms with one on the main floor, a huge recreation room, gym, music room, three car garage, Nu-Heat radiant, electric pad flooring, and a spa.
Tours are offered daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The deadline for final ticket sales and 50/50 sales is midnight, Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017.
Draw dates are Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 and Friday, Feb. 3, 2017.
