A Langley RCMP officer stands watch at Newlands golf course on Wednesday after police launched a massive search for a man who earlier had inexplicably run from officers.

A man who ran from police prompted a large search by local Mounties along Fraser Highway at 208 Street and into Newland’s golf course on Wednesday morning.

Police vehicles could be seen along Fraser Highway and at the intersection on 208 Street, with several officers manning various locations around the area, including at Newland’s where one officer kept an eye out while golfers played on.

According to Const. Craig Van Herk, police were combing the area and a police dog had been called in after a man ran from officers earlier that morning.

“He may be high or drunk and a danger to himself, we just aren’t sure at this point,” said Van Herk who was out looking for the suspect as well.

Police didn’t believe the man was armed.
