Q17: 20 Questions for Langley Township Council candidates

Rick Green (for MAYOR) – For the most part we probably have some of the finest facilities in the lower mainland however there will be an increase in need as our population grows. The old Aldergrove complex should be rezoned, sold and developed into high rise development (approved in the Core Aldergrove Community Plan) The funding from that could be utilized for the NEW Aldergrove Pool, Ice and recreation facility.

Petrina Arnason – Don’t Know  This has recently been reviewed in the 10 year Master Parks Plan by Parks and Recreation with public consultation.

David Davis – Yes. Population is increasing.

Bev Dornan – Yes, as the population increases, more facilities will be needed and planning for this is part of long range planning.

Charlie Fox – Yes, finish the Aldergrove Rec. Center and move on to doing a project in Brookswood for their citizens.

Patricia Lessard – YES, Aldergrove is long overdue for recreation facilities.  As we continue to grow and bring more people into our community there will continue to be pressure on our existing facilities.

Jackie Mandzak – Yes. We have communities that are without recreation facilities and given the current state of transit in the Township of Langley, it is not always a possibility for them to travel to other areas.  Aldergrove has been waiting for a recreation centre.  They currently have an outdoor pool that cannot support the population and this past summer we saw closures because of that.  Recreation facilities should become the hub of the community, housing libraries, meeting rooms, gyms and fitness areas so that they can become a place for people to connect.  As we see growth in the township, this will become more important.

Kevin Mitchell – NO, with the exception of the Aldergrove complex and whatever Brookswood/Fernridge will require following the approval of a new OCP.

Scott Nichols – No. With the exception of Aldergrove.  An indoor pool facility is needed in that area.

Kim Richter – YES. Aldergrove definitely needs a new pool this term. This pool is especially needed for Aldergrove youth and seniors. I think a new pool and recreation center should be centrally located in Aldergrove and should at minimum include a pool, fitness facilities, and a library. I am not convinced that we should include a new arena on the proposed site as the existing arena and its current location is valued by Aldergrove residents.

Dave Stark – Yes, in Aldergrove!
