A man who was arrested Nov. 17 after allegedly sexually touching two different women as they tried to enter their workplace in Willowbrook, has previous convictions for committing indecent acts in public
Police in Langley credited high-quality surveillance video as a factor in the quick arrest of the suspected sex offender, accused of accosting two female employees last Thursday.
A man followed the first employee into the foyer to the front door of the locked business shortly after 8 a.m., said police.
"The two had minimal conversation and the female was touched in a sexual manner," said Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Largy.
"She pushed him away and he ran from the foyer."
A short time later another female employee passed the male suspect and was also touched in a sexual manner. He then ran from the business.
Police were able to identify a suspect after viewing video surveillance. At around the same time, 10:30 a.m., they received a report of a man acting suspiciously in the Willowbrook area.
Officers attended and arrested the person believed responsible for the two earlier sexual assaults.
Dana Gary Sellars-Newberry, 23, of no fixed address, was arrested and has been remanded in custody on two charges of sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Nov. 24.
“This arrest and, ultimately, these charges demonstrate the benefit of quality video surveillance. It has become critical to the success of many investigations," said Langley RCMP Supt. Murray Power.
"More and more businesses are choosing to install good quality surveillance, which allows us to expedite our investigations which ultimately makes our community that little bit safer.”
This accused has a criminal history.
Sellars-Newberry was sentenced to one day in jail and one year probation for committing an indecent act in a public place in Surrey in April.
He committed another indecent act in a public place in July and was sentenced to one more day in jail in September for that crime.
In 2014, he was sentenced to one day in jail for theft under $5,000 in Surrey.
