Langley Mounties are looking for suspects in a range of recent thefts and frauds, involving everything from vacuum cleaners to saddles.
On Dec. 7, a man walked into the Langley WalMart, chose a Keurig-brand coffee maker, and walked out without paying, said Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
It is possible that the suspect’s first name is Neil, Marks said.
On Dec. 3, someone decided to take a hammer to the front door of a business in the 20500 block of 56th Avenue, smashing out the glass. Surveillance photos do not show a particularly good look at the man’s face, but police are hoping someone will recognize his distinctive blanket, Marks said.
The blanket is printed with a cartoon of a goomba from the Mario Brothers video game series.
A number of Dyson vacuum cleaners were stolen on Dec. 2, when suspects managed to break into a North Langley storage facility.
One of the more audacious crimes recently involved a credit card theft and fraud costing thousands.
Last month, Langley RCMP spoke to a man whose credit card had been stolen from a post office.
It was subsequently used to make expensive purchases, including $5,000 worth of goods bought at the Langley Future Shop on Nov. 24.
The suspect bought a total of $16,000 worth of goods with the card, and also attempted to make third-party transfers from the victim’s bank account.
Another high-value crime took place Oct. 17, when a person or persons broke into a storage barn near 232nd Street and 16th Avenue and took approximately $50,000 worth of new and used saddles, and other riding gear and tools.
Of the 12 saddles taken, Marks said, most were Antares brand and have a unique logo and serial number.
Police are also looking for a man who was arrested, but has escaped by using a fake name.
Store security stopped a man in the Walmart on Aug. 17, after he allegedly took food, clothing, and headphones.
An RCMP officer arrested the man, who was unable to provide any ID.
The man gave a name and date of birth, and knew a keyword on ID for that name.
Police have since confirmed the suspect used the name of a person who was out of the province on the date of the crime.
