Councillor Kim Richter has dropped out of the mayor’s race in Langley Township – leaving just one declared candidate.

“So today, I am officially announcing that in this upcoming municipal election, I will run as a Township Councillor,” Richter announced in a Facebook post on Wednesday. “I will continue to listen to you as I have always done and to make sure that your voices are heard.”

Richter suggested feedback from friends and supporters led her to switch from running for the mayor’s chair back to another council run.

“You have passionately expressed the importance of my role as councillor and how sad you would be if I was not there to stand up and speak out for you,” she wrote.

The announcement leaves incumbent Mayor Jack Froese the only candidate currently in the race.

Fort Langley property owner and developer Eric Woodward has also said he is seriously considering running for the position, but he has not yet announced a decision.
