Multiple morning sailings between Greater Victoria and the Lower Mainland were cancelled on Thursday (July 4) morning due to problem's with a vessel's rudder.

BC Ferries delayed its 6 a.m. sailing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and then cancelled that trip around an hour and a half later. Just before its scheduled departure, the ferry agency said the 8 a.m. sailing out of Swartz Bay was also cancelled due to the mechanical issues.

The company says repairs are underway and technicians are trying to have the affected vessel back in service for the 10 a.m. trip from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay.
