Four years after a 16-year-old Langley girl was abducted from a Brookswood bus stop and sexually assaulted at knifepoint, police have still not made an arrest in the case
But the investigators are still actively working the disturbing case and are hopeful that a renewed public interest in the crime, spurred through social media, might lead to new information.
“It is still an active and open investigation. No one suspect has been identified and tips are still being followed up on as they come in,” said Langley RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alex Mulvihill.
Earlier this week, someone apparently mistook the original Langley Times story, written in 2013, for a new one, thinking think the crime had occurred this past June 22 and shared the story.
Because of the scary nature of the crime, the post has gone viral through all social media channels, with many pointing out the crime happened four years ago, but many wanted to know whether any progress had been made in the case.
Mulvihill spoke to the lead investigator and said police continue to treat this case as very important and are hoping new information will come out of the renewed social media interest.
On June 22, 2013, at approximately 12:15 p.m., a teenage girl was waiting for a bus at the intersection of 42 Avenue and 204 Street. The suspect pulled up in a silver hatchback and ordered her to get in. She was terrified and did as he said, said Langley RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Marks. Once inside the vehicle, he produced a large knife.
He drove her to the Christian Life Assembly parking lot in the 21200 block of 56 Avenue where she was sexually assaulted.
He then drove her to the Langley bus loop at Logan and Glover and released her without further incident.
The suspect is described as Caucasian, 50-years-old, 6-foot tall, heavy build, balding with grey / blond hair, pale blue eyes, a full beard and wearing blue / grey shirt and pants, and sunglasses. He was driving a small, newer model, silver hatchback.
The victim has subsequently worked with a sketch artist and a composite has been rendered.
