A fire did serious damage to an empty home on 16th Avenue in South Langley Sunday morning.

Langley Township firefighters were alerted at about 7:50 a.m. and found smoke showing through the roof when they arrived at the home in the 19900 block of 16th Avenue.

Crews from three halls responded to the fire, and managed to contain the damage, said assistant fire chief Bruce Ferguson.

“We were able to stop it at that end of the house,” said Ferguson.

The home was empty, but had not been vacant for long.

No one was injured.

Ferugson said 16th Avenue was shut down for about two hours because fire crews had to stretch their main water line across the road.

Damage to the home is estimated at about $200,000.
