With one term under her belt, Michelle Sparrow has announced she’s running for Township council.

“During my first term I have been a strong voice on Langley Township council, including speaking against the urban development of our agricultural lands,” she said.

Sparrow said she’s also worked to see that urban development provides a variety of housing and mixed uses and respects the “our community of communities offers.”

She said her record also includes spearheading new citizen engagement work with the Township IT department to improve the Township website and make it easier for residents to obtain information and provide feedback.

“My motion to see the creation of a policy which requires Township council to set a strategic vision and to set goals at the beginning of every term, ensuring there is a clear vision and direction which elected officials are responsible, was something which had never been done before and was passed unanimously,” she added.

Sparrow’s priorities for the coming term include: a new recreation facility for Aldergrove, a performing arts venue for this communmity, protective services, and more.

She wants to further enhance Township technology and implement an e-democracy strategy to encourage broader participation in local government.

Sparrow was the first local person elected to capitalize on social media in her first election, versus more traditional forms of campaigning.
