Police found a double mystery in rural Langley when they investigated a suspicious fire and found at least one stolen boat.

The fire broke out at about 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

The flames destroyed a barn on a property in the 6900 block of 232nd Street.

The property was vacant, and the building was due to be torn down. It was not insured.

However, there were two boats on the property. One, inside the barn, was destroyed by the fire. The second, behind it, was undamaged.

A representative of the property owner told police the boats weren’t his.

Police checked serial numbers on the undamaged boat, and discovered it had been stolen earlier this year from Abbotsford.

Officers are still trying to determine who the burned boat belonged to, as well as the source of the fire.

It’s unknown who had been storing the boats on the property.
