A 28-year-old man from Surrey will be spending another year in jail for sexual offences involving minors.
Paul Atanassov appeared in Vancouver criminal court Thursday (Feb. 6), where he was handed down a sentence of 370 days after he was initially charged in 2021. In total, Atanassov's sentence is 4.5 years for sexual interference and making and publishing child pornography.
Atanassov was being investigated by police in the summer of 2021 by the Surrey RCMP Internet Child Exploitation unit.
He was later charged with 14 counts, including sexual assault, possession of child pornography, making or publishing child pornography, telecommunication to lure a child under 16, inviting counselling or inciting a person under 16 to touch any person, sexual interference of a person under 16 and breach of undertaking.
By the time of the hearing, the 28-year-old was credited with 1,272 days in jail, or 3.5 years, so he will spend another 370 days behind bars.
On Thursday, Atanassov was also sentenced to probation for two years and a DNA order. He will also spend 20 years on the national sex offender registry.
