A man lost his cellphone, but gained a photo of the suspect, thanks to a security app on his device, said Langley RCMP.
On the afternoon of Oct. 4, the victim’s car was broken into while it was parked at Gold’s Gym in the 19900 block of 81A Avenue, said Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
Two cellphones were taken.
One of the phones had an app that takes a photo of the user every time an invalid password is used to try to unlock the phone’s functions. The photo is then emailed to the phone’s user.
Sure enough, a couple of photos have since turned up in the victim’s email, sent by the app.
Police are now sharing the photo with the public, in the hopes that someone knows the person.

Police are also looking for two other suspected thieves caught on camera.
One man stole a cellphone from an unlocked car parked at the pump of an Esso gas station on Glover Road on May 26. Surveillance footage shows the man entering the woman’s car while she was inside paying for gas.
On Aug. 1, a man got into the elevator room of a business in the 19700 block of Willowbrook Drive. He first tried to access the elevator, but failed.
He then stole the security camera that took his picture.
