An SUV narrowly missed crashing through the C-Lovers Fish and Chips in Langley City around 11 a.m. on Friday.

An elderly driver of an SUV veered off the road, hit a parked car, jumped the curb, nearly landing her vehicle in the front window of C-Lovers Fish and Chips on Friday morning.

"Thank goodness I bought that concrete planter through the City," said C-Lovers owner Brad McLeod. The force of the vehicle actually pushed the planter off its perch, lodging it under the SUV, securing it from going through the window. The SUV was less than a foot from the large bay window.

The senior female driver and her elderly female passenger didn't appear to be hurt but ambulance was on scene with paramedics evaluating them both. It isn't known why the driver drove off the road.

The crash took place around 11:15 a.m. in the 20200 block of Fraser Highway.

There wasn't anyone sitting at the tables where the SUV would have driven through, but if the crash occurred a half hour later, the area would have been filled with patrons.

"I think I may buy a few more of those planters," said McLeod.

In Maple Ridge, two women were killed and others permanently injured when a man drove his truck through the front of a sushi restaurant a few years ago. The parked vehicle that was struck was a brand new Kia sedan a woman had just purchased.

Police were interviewing the driver and it isn't known at this time if any tickets will be issued for the crash.
