A police and ERT (Emergency Response Team) takedown shocked onlookers outside the Sandman Signature Hotel in North Langley near Highway One late Wednesday afternoon.

Posts on social media said there was a heavy police presence at the hotel and a photo has been posted that appears to show heavily armed officers handcuffing a suspect against the hood of a car.

It appears more than one person was taken in custody, a witness said.

Another witness describes the activity as “definitely heavy armed SWAT.”

The takedown was part of a larger ongoing drug investigation by RCMP drug units.

“We can confirm that this incident involved a few different teams and some support from some other units including some of the integrated teams like the ERT and First Response,” an RCMP spokesperson said. “As a result, four persons were taken into custody.

“Safe to say it was conducted by our drug unit here in Surrey and is part of a larger effort to curb drug trafficking in the community.”

Earlier this year, Tyrell Sinnott, 20, was gunned down in a brazen daylight shooting in the hotel parking lot.

More information about the Aug. 16 takedown, and arrests and charges, is expected in the coming days.
