Thieves strike twice

Thieves somehow bypassed fences, metal doors and an alarm two nights in a row this week at the Aldergrove church undergoing reconstruction

Thieves somehow bypassed fences, metal doors and an alarm two nights in a row this week at the church undergoing reconstruction at 272 Street and 26 Avenue.

Lyle Kuemper of Living Word Fellowship said tradesmen discovered when they arrived Monday morning that new copper pipe was stolen. The next morning they arrived to find that their tools had been stolen, along with rolls of new copper wiring. Some of the copper stolen the first night was discovered by Township employees, buried next to the nearby municipal pumping station and has been returned to the site.

Kuemper says he is “mystified” as to how the thieves managed to bypass security measures, but the church will step it up with new measures. He appeals to anyone who may have information on the thefts to call RCMP.

Living Word Fellowship, which currently leases space at the Adventist Church, purchased the church site in January. It had previously been a Buddhist temple and a United Church.
