Surrey Mounties are letting people know about another dangerous sex offender living in the city.
Police say Ezaz Razak, 29, was convicted in 2019 of sexually assaulting two women in 2017.
The Surrey RCMP’s “public interest notification” was posted online Friday (May 17) under the Privacy Act of Canada.
Razak will be released into the community after completing his federal sentence, according to police. “He represents a serious and imminent risk to vulnerable women and intimate partners,” warns a post on bc-cb.rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
Later Friday, after news broke about Razak’s release, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke said it’s “unconscionable” that another dangerous sex offender has been released into the community, for the third time in roughly six weeks.
“It goes without saying that Mr. Razak is not welcome in our city,” Locke stated in an email. “I urge anyone who sees this sexual predator out after 10 p.m. or using drugs or alcohol to call 9-1-1 immediately.”
Locke added: “I am sending a letter to both the federal and provincial Ministers responsible for public safety to demand a comprehensive review of the laws pertaining to sentencing, release, and monitoring of dangerous sex offenders with a high risk of re-offending, to determine more appropriate measures in order to protect all communities from harm.
Razak’s conditions include not consuming or possessing alcohol, drugs or any intoxicating substances, except with a medical prescription prescribed by a doctor qualified to practice medicine in B.C. He must also obey a daily curfew between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., and is subject to monitoring in order to ensure compliance with his conditions.
