An intense manhunt didn't turn up a suspect who fled after crashing a courtesy car in the parking lot of Glenwood Elementary School at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
The driver lost control of a small blue sedan, careening the vehicle into a Langley School District van that was parked beside the school.
The speed and force of the crash pushed the school van at least 50 feet and over a concrete barrier in the parking lot of the school. No one was injured in the crash.
The suspect, who is known to police, fled on foot. Police dogs were quickly put into action. Police blocked off 208 Street to all traffic from 28 Avenue south to 16 Avenue as well as some of 28 Avenue.
Parents were being asked to come around 216 Street to 24 Avenue to pick up their kids. Had the van not been parked where it was, and took the brunt of impact, the car could have gone through the classroom that fronts the school, said one observer at the scene.
It's believed the sedan was being driven erratically, speeding and passing vehicles south on 208 Street before losing control while trying to avoid a vehicle that had slowed for the school zone.
The vehicle, which came from an Aldergrove autobody shop, sustained major damage. The school didn't appear to be damaged. Police believe they know who their suspect is but no arrests had been made as of deadline on Wednesday.
