A serious crash involving a flipped concrete truck in Langley sent a 67-year-old Abbotsford man to hospital and shut down 16 Avenue between 240 and 245 Street for most of Tuesday.
Around 12:45 p.m., the westbound, fully loaded concrete truck veered off the road and went into a ditch. It struck a driveway and sheared off a power pole.
The truck rolled and came to rest sideways into some trees, said Langley RCMP. The single male occupant was extricated from the cab by Township of Langley firefighters and airlifted to hospital with head injuries, said Cpl. Holly Largy.
Since arriving at hospital his condition has improved, said Largy.
He sustained injuries to his head and chest, but is in stable condition.
Why the driver left the road is unknown, but police are looking into whether the crash may have been the result of a medical condition.
"We do not believe speed was a factor in the collision at all," said Largy.
Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement is inspecting the truck and federal officers were on scene for an oil leak.
BC Hydro also dealt with the hot power lines.
Numerous homes were without power for hours while crews raised a new pole.
