UPDATED: Regional organized crime unit takes down suspect in Langley City

CFSEU investigators were following car, police say

More information about a police takedown in Langley City Friday night has been released, with word the regional Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) made the arrest.

Langley RCMP reported the CFSEU was involved in the incident that happened around 9 p.m. near 200 Street and 53 Avenue across the street from Nicomekl Elementary School.

The CFSEU has not released a statement so far.

It’s believed police stopped a Dodge Charger that was reportedly attempting to evade police and the car ended up on the sidewalk.

The RCMP Air1 helicopter and police dog service units searched the residential area for about an hour until a suspect was arrested at 203 Street and 54 Avenue.

The CFSEU was created in 2004 to facilitate the disruption and suppression of organized crime in BC and to support municipal police departments when public safety is deemed to be a priority.

It is modelled after other CFSEU units across the country and is currently staffed by RCMP officers and officers from municipal police forces and transit police.

The primary mandate of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit is to “expose, investigate, prosecute, dismantle, and disrupt organized criminal enterprises.”

The second mandate is to share intelligence with partners and to cooperate with, and assist other organized crime enforcement units at the national and international levels.

The CFSEU is the largest integrated police program in Canada, and the third largest police force in the province with over 400 officers.

The incident did not appear to be related to an earlier crash the same day that involved an unmarked RCMP vehicle at 200 Street and 56 Avenue.
