Friends of Hudson Brooks from Langley will be among those at a vigil on July 18th outside the Surrey RCMP headquarters.

Brooks, 20, was shot to death near the 152nd Avenue District 5 RCMP office on July 18, 2015.

His friend Bailee Pearson attended Brookswood Secondary with Brooks.

“I knew him since Grade 8,” Pearson said.

She said Brooks was a good friend who looked out for her throughout high school. Brooks had moved away from Langley at the time of his death, but still had many friends here, she said.

The vigil, open to friends, family, and the public, is aimed at seeing some acknowledgement from the police about what happened, said Pearson.

The vigil will start at 7 p.m.

Brooks’ family and friends are still looking for more information about what happened.

Police said at the time that there had been a call about a suicidal man, screaming and in distress. A police officer suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The only weapon found at the scene was a police issued firearm.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is looking into the matter, as it does with all police shootings.
