One of the biggest waste disposal firms in B.C. has been ordered to pay a $145,000 fine for running an unlicensed waste handling facility in Surrey.
Super Save Disposal Inc. must pay the fine to Metro Vancouver's sewerage and drainage district.
The Langley-based firm pleaded guilty in provincial court to one charge of running an unlicensed transfer station or material recovery facility.
Super Save had been repeatedly warned by Metro bylaw enforcement officers that a licence was required for its operation in Surrey at 19388 92 Avenue but continued to run it for more than 14 months.
According to Metro, the four-acre site contained household items, construction and demolition waste, as well as salvaged materials such as metals, wood and tires.
