Langley RCMP are continuing their investigation into a drug lab found in a City apartment Friday.

Mounties discovered a drug lab inside an apartment building in downtown Langley.

The sound of whimpering from inside an apartment in the 21000 block of 56th Avenue last Friday afternoon raised the concern of a fellow resident and ultimately the police, to the point where Mounties broke into the apartment – and discovered much more than expected, explained Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Largy.

“Callers advised they could hear a woman whimpering in one of the apartments,” she recounted.

Police attended and heard the same noises.

“Occupants of the residence ignored police requests to open the door, so entry was made by force,” she explained.

Turns out the whimpering noises were actually coming from the television.

One man was located inside “who appeared to be suffering the effects of illicit drug use,” Largy said, noting he was “apprehended” and taken to hospital.

In the meantime, while Mounties were inside the apartment, they observed “what appeared to be a clandestine lab.”

Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant the following day with the assistance of the RCMP CLEAR (Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response) Team.

“Items located in the residence are believed to be consistent with the production of DMT (Dimemthyltryptamine), a psychedelic drug,” Largy said. All hazardous chemicals were removed from the residence and Langley drug section will retain conduct of the investigation.

The 41-year-old man found in the apartment has since been released and RCMP are continuing their investigation.
