Langley RCMP are looking for a man who groped a young female victim on trails near Walnut Grove Secondary.

The incident took place on Dec. 1 but wasn’t reported until Dec. 12, said Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill, a spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

At about 8:15 a.m., the victim was walking through the trails towards Walnut Grove Secondary when she was approached by a man.

He tried to physically force her to go with him, but she was able to get away.

The suspect is Caucasian, 30 to 40 years old, with a skinny build and standing about 6’0” tall. He was wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans.

There is no known link between this incident and other reported suspicious incidents involving Langley students or near Langley schools in recent weeks, Mulvihill said.

The RCMP are asking for anyone who may have seen something suspicious on Dec. 1 on the wooded trails to the west of Walnut Grove Secondary to come forward. Anyone who may have seen a man who matches this suspect’s description on the trails at other times is also asked to call.

Mulvihill also suggested some personal safety tips:

• Be aware of your surroundings at all times

• Do not walk alone while wearing headphones and listening to music

• Keep your cellphone in a bag or jacket

• If you see something suspicious, call the police and go to a populated and well lit area
