A woman was killed after falling from a horse at a property on 0 Avenue, east of the Pacific Highway border crossing.

A 28-year-old woman who died from injuries sustained after falling from a horse in South Surrey Thursday was remembered by a friend as "a really well-liked person who really loved her horse so much."

Surrey RCMP say they were summoned to a property in the 17900-block of 0 Ave at around 4:30 p.m., where they found an Emergency Health Service team attempting to revive the victim.

The victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amanda Forde, who worked at the farm property where the woman boarded her quarter-horse, said she and the woman had become friends recently, bonding over their common love for horses.

The victim was a "very experienced rider" who had purchased her horse and was getting back into riding after some years away from away from it, she said.

"She was so dedicated to her horse," she said. "Even if she couldn't ride that day, she'd come and and hang out with her horse."

Forde said the woman had been intending to race her horse, and had been working slowly on training it, and increasing her own confidence as a rider.

While she was away from the property at the time of the accident, Forde said she believed the woman was riding it in the indoor arena area of the farm.

"I don't know what happened exactly. She wouldn't ride it out in the fields, only in the closed area. She was a very safe rider and her horse is a really good horse.

"(Her horse) just turned three on Monday and she was so excited. She said they had the best ride they'd ever had – she was so happy. She told me she was going to have that horse forever.

"Everyone is just devastated. I feel very bad for her and her family."

Police say no foul play is suspected, vehicle traffic was not a factor, and that the file has been turned over to the regional coroners' office.

Regional Coroner Brynne Redford said the file is still in the process of investigation and no further information can be released at this time.
