Alan Armstrong passed peacefully at The Residence at Morgan Heights after spending time in Peace Arch Hospital. Alan was born in England in the town of Prudhoe in Northumberland County to parents Sidney and Lillian Armstrong.
Al became a journeyman carpenter there before moving to Canada in 1962 with his wife Mary and their first son Cliff. Al and Mary spent 5 years in Ontario having two more children (Trevor and Helen) before packing up their car and driving to BC, eventually settling in Langley. Al spent his entire career in the construction industry working his way up quickly to a site superintendent role for various large projects throughout Metro Vancouver, including bridges, reservoirs and the Canada Games pool.
Al was also an entrepreneur and always kept his eye out for an opportunity, whether that was loading up his car with fresh vegetables after work to sell to his weekly customers or building multiple homes over the years throughout Langley and on the White Rock hillside.
He had a passion for travel that he shared with his wife Mary. Together they visited dozens of destinations across Europe, Africa, North and South America, Indonesia and Australia. Al always loved a cold pint and a good joke and in his retirement he could often be found in one of several establishments along the beach in White Rock, usually holding court and telling an impossibly long and expertly executed joke. Al's quick wit and distinctive laugh will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Al is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary Armstrong, children Clifford Armstrong and Trevor Armstrong, grandchildren Tyler Armstrong (Brittany) and Brandon Armstrong (Roxanne)and great grandchildren Avery, Sienna and Asher. Al was predeceased by his parents Sidney and Lillian Armstrong, brother Ivan Armstrong and daughter Helen Armstrong.
There will be a celebration of life at Westbeach Bar and Grill in White Rock, August 9th from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Peace Arch Hospital.
