Arnold ALLEN

ALLEN, Arnold Ward ``Bud'', passed away in Surrey, B.C. on Sunday, January 11, 2004, aged 71 years, 8 months, 29 days.

Born in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan on the 13th of April, 1932, Bud was the youngest son of Wesley and Ella Allen of Lone Spruce, SK. Bud has an interesting life - he worked at the Madsen gold mine in Red Lake, Ontario; farmed in Saskatchewan and in 1956 moved to British Columbia. He began work with the B.C. Department of Highways on Highway 401 in Chilliwack, B.C. in 1957. In 1958 he married Betty (Laughlin). In 1960 they moved to Surrey, and in 1964 he began a long career with Associated Engineering in Burnaby. In 1997, he retired reluctantly. In 1971, the family moved to Langley, where Bud could continue to have his animals on a hobby farm.

Bud loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hiking, biking, skiing and walking his faithful dog, Max at Derby Reach Park, with his friend Larry as well as step aerobics.

He leaves to mourn his passing, Betty, his wife of 45 years; sons, Doug (Gayle) of Langley and Jim of Nanaimo; 3 grandchildren, Alison, Thomas and Emily; sister-in-law, Mildred Allen of Shellbrook, SK; his Godchildren, Rick, Gary and Joe Meeres and Nancy (Meeres) Pellikaan in Chilliwack, B.C. as well as Blanca and Jorg Kroll in Berlin, Germany; many nieces and nephews in B.C. and SK; and special friends, Carolyn Meeres, Larry and Letha Johnson.

Friends and family who wish to pay their respects may do so at Henderson's Funeral Home on Friday, January 23, 2004 from 7-9 p.m., 20786 Fraser Highway, Langley. A graveside service will be held at Fort Langley Cemetery, 23105 St. Andrews, Fort Langley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24 with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. from the Port Kells Congregational Church, 19131 88th Ave., Surrey.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the B.C. Lung Association.
