September 28, 1930 - October 14, 2018
With great sadness, Bernice's family announces her passing Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the age of 88 years.

Since late 2009, Bernice lived at the Cedar Hills long term care home. Bernice loved her friends there and the caring staff.

September 28th, 1930 Bernice was born. Life began at the beginning of the "Great Depression" - a decade of drought and food stamps.

In the late 1930's, Bernice's Mother and youngest sister were killed in a horrific car accident. The trauma did not stop. In 1939, WWII was declared, and 5 years of blackout curtains dominated Bernice's memory. 1945 At the young age of 15, Bernice remembered celebrating the end of WWII; yet, rationing continued for years. The Great Depression, her Mother and sister tragically killed, and 5 years of a World at War was cruel hardship for fifteen years; yet, Bernice's spirit was the Pioneer spirit. Pioneers of early Langley endured hardships unbearable to us now.

1948 Age 18, Bernice worked at B.C. Tel in New Westminster. 1952 Bernice married Ken Robinson and they began their family 2 years later. Mom and Dad worked hard to provide for their family. Mom churned cream to make delicious butter; made thick tasty bread; and picked and preserved berry jam. The children had plenty of great food. Mom did not eat much herself; she just kept giving.

Mom enjoyed learning. She enjoyed Adult Education courses such as Advanced typing, upholstery and hairdressing. Mom also taught the May Pole dance at South Carvolth school. They won a trophy at the May Day held in Fort Langley.

Mom enjoyed people. She enjoyed the Pioneer Social an annual event honouring Langley's early pioneers. The pioneers' outlook included sacrifice, saving and striving. Mom will not be in attendance this year, sadly.

Mom was a positive person and carried an inner strength. She will be remembered by her five children, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
