Bertha ALEXANDER

January 20, 2005

ALEXANDER, Bertha Emma (nee Gill), 92, passed away peacefully at Langley Memorial Hospital, January 20, 2005.

Her husband, Archie, and son, Robert, predeceased her. Survivors include 2 daughters, Bernice (Phil) of Virginia and Louise of Langley; 1 son, Murray of Langley; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Bertha was born in Rivers, Manitoba on January 10, 1913. That year her family moved to a farm near Jasmin where she spent her entire childhood. She graduated from Ross Collegiate in Moosejaw and worked for Dr. Collins before marrying Archie Alexander. The first half of their married life they lived on the prairie and the last half in Beautiful BC - a dream come true. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary shortly before Archie died.

Bertha was a loving mother and held in high esteem by all her children. She was a great cook, an expert quilter and a master gardener - finding great solace in the beautiful flowers she grew and gave away. She was always community minded - helping to organize the Busy Bee Homemakers Club as a young woman and later becoming very involved in the UCW, the Rebekah's Lodge and the Langley Garden Club, earning lifetime membership awards in all 3 organizations.

A Memorial Service is scheduled at Sharon United Church, Monday, January 24 at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch in the fellowship hall for all attending. A private burial at Langley Lawn will precede the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharon United Church (Memorial Fund), 21562 Old Yale Road, Langley, BC, V3A 4M8 or Langley Hospice Society, 20088 40A Ave., Langley, BC, V3A 2Y6.
