In Loving Memory ~
After many battles with cancer, Betty- Ann Carmen Berry passed away peacefully at Langley Hospice on July 27, 2022. She was 77 years old.
Carmen was born December 14, 1944 in a car near Rochfort Bridge, AB. She married Rick Berry on May 6, 1967 in Vancouver, BC. They moved to Langley in September 1981, and have called it home for over 40 years.
She is survived by her husband Rick, 2 sons, Curtis (Nancy), and Quinn (Lori), 4 granddaughters, Mikayla, Brianna, Vanessa, and Emma and 2 sisters, Amy Schatz and Velma Sturm and was predeceased by her father George Sturm, mother Lena Harke, sister Marlene Smyl, and brother Walter George Sturm.
A "Remembering Carmen" service will be held at Coquitlam Presbyterian Church (948 Como Lake Avenue) on Saturday August 13, 2022 at 1:00 pm.
Carmen first worked in Sangudo, AB as a switchboard operator before moving to Vancouver. She had many jobs in her early career life, ranging from a server to a bookkeeper before getting her Certified Industrial Manager (CIM) designation in 1984.
Then, in 1986, she joined her husband Rick in running the family trucking business, Cur-Quin Delivery. They grew their business to include terminals in Langley, Victoria, and Nanaimo.
In 2009, they sold the business and retired. In her retirement, Carmen loved to follow hockey. They had season tickets to the Vancouver Giants and she participated in various online hockey pools.
Carmen was always on the go and had places to be. One of our fondest memories was Expo 86. Being 5'-0", it was tough for her to get a good view of anything so we gave her the nickname "The Midge". We often found it hard to keep up with her as she squeezed through the crowd trying to get a better view.
When people got irritated that we were pushing our way to the front, all we could do was say, "What can we do? We have to keep up with The Midge!"
Right before she passed, we joked with her about her height and she admitted that she didn't think she was 5'-0" but 4'-11"!
You will be greatly missed... All 4'-11" of you!
