It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of Captain John Lewis McKay; Master Mariner, Merchant Marine Veteran and retired B.C. Coast Pilot. Born October 24, 1921 at St. Paul's Hospital, he passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on March 30, 2005 at Langley Memorial Hospital. In passing Lewis leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty, sons Jack and Richard (Ann) McKay, daughters Dolly (Bill) Mozell, April (John) Mitchell, 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his brother Ray (Elsa) McKay; sisters Rita Cook, Anna Phipps including many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Joe McKay. Lewis will always be remembered for his love, kindness, warmth and understanding. He was a true gentleman who touched the hearts and souls of all those who knew him. Prayers will take place on Tuesday, April 5, at 7:00 p.m. and a funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Parish, 20676 Fraser Highway, Langley. Reception will follow, then interment at the Gardens of Gethsemani. In lieu of flowers a donation to the B.C. Cancer Society would be appreciated.
