Doris Wettstein passed away peacefully in Mayfair Care Home in Abbotsford, BC, three and one half months shy of her 100th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband Hans and her daughters Joy and Connie. She is survived by her children Shirley (Ed), Lyn (Joe), Les (Robyn), Tim, Rick (Gail) and her 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was born in Stettler, Alberta, the youngest child of Marion and Myrtle McCarty. In 1940 when Doris was 20 she married Hans Wettstein and moved to BC. Doris and Hans co-founded the Brownie House Bakery where they sold produce from their family farm and baking items. Their cinnamon buns were VERY popular. The Brownie House operated from 1950-1996 on Fraser Highway in Cloverdale.
Doris was an avid writer, she loved to read, garden, bake, and make crafts, toys, games and rugs. After retirement, Doris, Hans and Tim travelled extensively. She was involved in the Langley Seventh-Day Adventist church in many capacities. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who worked hard her entire life and loved her family deeply.
We thank the nurses and staff of Menno Hospital and Mayfair Care Home where she was kindly cared for in the last year of her life.
A memorial drop-in open house will be held in her memory on November 30 at 32756 Haida Drive from 3 pm-6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ADRA Canada.
