February 9, 1931 - March 16, 2021
Ed Lester passed away quietly March 16th, 2021 in Langley Lodge where he had been a resident since early 2019.
Ed is survived by his sister Annabel Adam (Jim), his son Gordon (Mary), daughter Karen (Jock), daughter-in-law (Heide); his loving wife of 32 years, Helen and her family, Brian (Heidi), Diane; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Ed and Helen lived in Delta, Cloverdale and finally Walnut Grove. Ed was a carpenter and learned carpentry skills early from his father. Over the years he
specialized in remodeling and installing new kitchens in older homes.
Ed was the son of William (Bill) and Beatrice Lester (nee Nish) and was born and grew up in Vancouver, BC along with his younger sister Annabel; to whom he was very close.
His great-uncle Jacob had a small farm in south Langley (now part of Campbell Valley Regional Park) and in his teen years, Ed enjoyed working with Jacob clearing land with a horse, blasting stumps, hunting ducks and pheasants, and camping with his friends.
Ed married Sheila Brown in February 1952 and they had 4 children, Gordon, David, Steven and Karen. Ed was a Scout leader, baseball coach and taught his boys fishing and camping skills. Karen often chose highland dancing over camping.
In later years, Ed was involved with the Greater Vancouver Garden Railroad Club, a member of the Langley Senior Resources Center and the Willoughby Community Hall Society.
Over the past 10 years Ed's health was sometimes a challenge and the families want to thank his doctors, caregivers, staff and nursing team on the sixth floor, and friends for their support.
Due to Covid restrictions, no funeral service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Parkinson's Research or a charity of your choice.
