Edwin (Ed) LAU

LAU, Edwin (Ed). Born May 28, 1938 in Lady, Poland, passed away suddenly February 15th at Cowichan District Hospital, Duncan, B.C. as a result of a stroke. Ed is survived by his children Selina, Jeff and Dwayne; his grandchildren Melissa and Briane, his brother Hal and sister Erika as well as numerous other relatives. Ed was predeceased by his father Wilhelm, his mother Amanda and brothers Reinhold and Bruno. Ed and his family fled from Poland to East Germany in 1949 because of the Russian occupation and then emigrated to Canada in 1952. He attended school in the Cowichan Valley and then moved to the lower mainland where he was hired by Safeway. After 39 years as a valued employee, Ed took early retirement at the age of 60. Ed enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing and spending time with friends and family. Ed also had a fondness for card games, especially cribbage, poker as well as the occasional visit to the casino. A service in memory of Ed will be held at the First Memorial Funeral Home at 375 Brae Rd., Duncan, B.C. at 2pm on Friday, February 25th followed by a celebration of his life at the home of Herb and Erika Lange - 5201 Miller Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Ed's name.
