February 19, 1934 - May 29, 2021
Tielens, Elisabeth Johanna Maria was born to Josephina and Gerardus Balkestein in Kruiningen, the Netherlands. She was the youngest of four children and her family lost their home to bombing during WW2.
They later moved to Maastricht where Elisabeth became a lab technician at the hospital. Through work she met her beloved husband, Raoul, who was a physician. They were married in Maastricht in 1957 and moved to BC eventually settling in Langley in 1958.
Elisabeth and Raoul lived in Langley raising their family and making many dear friends until the pandemic necessitated a move to Summerland last year. Raoul sadly pre-deceased Elisabeth by eight months.
Elisabeth loved to play tennis and bridge with friends and Yahtzee with her grandchildren. She enjoyed many family ski vacations, even as a reluctant skier, and travelled with Raoul later in life visiting family in Europe and the States.
Lis will be remembered for her contagious and welcoming smile and her ability to see the best in people and situations.
Elisabeth will be sorely missed by her four children Marguerite (Dan MacIntosh), Peter, Veronica, and Tom (Eun); her grandchildren Cameron (McKinley), Anne-Marie, Adrienne (Jathan), Alexzandria, Liam, Gabriel, and Paige; and great-grandchildren Cade and Esme.
A Funeral Mass was held at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Langley, BC on June 16, 2021.
