Emily MACKENZIE

September 4, 2004

MACKENZIE: Emily, passed away peacefully at her home in Langley on Saturday, September 4, 2004.

Emily was born Emily Margaret Cherry on October 10, 1911 in Ottawa, Ontario.

She is survived by her daughter Francis, Langley; and sons Edwin (Sharon), Vernon, Cameron (Luci), Langley, and Jim (Lynda), Kamloops and 8 grandchildren, Duncan, Erin, John, Sandy, Cameron, Lochie, Conor & Bren. She was predeceased by her husband, Duncan, her 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Emily and Duncan moved to BC in 1950. They settled on a diary farm in Glen Valley, just east of Fort Langley. Duncan initially farmed and then taught at UBC while Emily focused her attention on raising the four children. In 1976, several years after Duncan has passed away, Emily moved into Langley City. Emily enjoyed travelling, painting, knitting, needlework and sports. Her real love and joy were her Grandchildren. Granny as they called her, always enjoyed the opportunity to go and watch any sport they participated in and to hear about their activities.

Emily loved sports and keenly followed tennis, hockey and golf. Each summer, she enjoyed spending several weeks in Parksville. Although, Emily loved the beauty of BC's oceans and mountains, she always liked to reminisce about her formative years in Ontario where something like the Fall Colors and cold crisp Winter days were just a bit better than what BC had to offer.

Emily will be lovingly missed.

At Emily's request, there will be no service, but a family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Emily's memory to the CNIB Talking Books Program, c/o 5055 Joyce St., Vancouver, BC, V5R 6B2.
