Errol Charles Jaggernath, Senior passed away at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the age of 90 after a brief stay in hospital.
Errol was born in Pluck Road, Penal, Trinidad in 1934. He attended Penal Presbyterian Elementary School, went on to high-school and college. After graduation, he taught high school and saved every penny until he could build his mother a new house. Then he saved until he could come to Canada to study chemistry, planning to go back home and work in the oil fields, but fell in love with Canada and decided to stay here.
He arrived in Canada in 1960, attended UBC until 1964. In 1961, he married Ruby Peters, the mother of his three boys, Carl, Lawrence and Charles.
He worked in the Port Alice pulp mill on Vancouver Island for several years, then re-trained in real estate. He became a land assessor for the Province of BC and worked a few years in Prince George before transferring to Surrey, BC where he worked until retirement.
He and Ruby were separated in 1982. He is survived by his three sons, Carl (Julie), Lawrence (fr. Joyce) and Charles (Barbara), his ex-wife, and 6 grandchildren - Serena, Nathan, Alaura, Melinda, Natasha and Katie; and 9 nieces and 5 nephews in Ontario and Trinidad. All five of his siblings, Jesse (Dede), Sonny, Popo, Dolly and Suresh. pre-deceased him.
He valued education and intelligence. He didn't talk much, loved his family, was proud of his children and adored his grandchildren. Family was important to him. In his free time, he was an avid golfer, enjoyed following current events and watching professional sports.
The family would like to thank the kind and caring dementia-care staff at Chartwell Langley Garden's Memory Living Residence, who made his last 5 years of living with dementia as enjoyable as possible.
