Francis MCKINNON

February 4, 2004

MCKINNON, Francis James. Frank passed away February 4th at Peace Arch Hospital with his wife and children at his side. He is survived by his wife Doris, and his six children; Jean (Karel Chizek), Ron (Bonnie), Marion Crook, Margaret (Ray Pederson), Bob (Mary), Trish Williams (Bruce Byfield), thirteen granchildren and six great grandchildren.

Frank was born on a prairie farm near Moosomin, Saskatchewan on January 2, 1912. He was the third child in the family of Norman and Mary Jane McKinnon, who raised nine boys and three girls. Frank didn't remember too much of the prairie years as the family moved to the Pacific Coast in 1916. The McKinnons moved to Surrey Centre in 1919. Frank went to school at Surrey Centre and Cloverdale. At the age of 14 he started work as an office boy with Carncross and Hugh, notaries public and insurance, in Cloverdale. He rose to become managing partner of the company, which in 1945 changed it's name to Hugh and McKinnon Ltd. He retired in 1976.

Frank's life was shaped by a strong Christian belief and inspiring ethical standards. His successful business career never interfered with his firm sense of family and community. His concern and committment to the causes and the people he championed never wavered throughout his rich and rewarding life.

Frank and Doris travelled widely, meeting new friends and gaining new experiences throughout their long and happy marriage.

Prayers will be held Monday, February 9th at 7:00p.m. at Good Shepherd Church, 2250 - 150th St., Surrey. Where Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 10th at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the CNIB, Canadian Food for Children - B.C. divison, or the charity of your choice.
