CHRISTENSEN, (nee Vowles),

Helena Josephine

Born September 12, 1949 in Victoria, B.C. Went to be with her Lord March 18, 2010 at Langley Memorial Hospital ICU with her family at her side. Helena is survived by Jim, her husband of 37 years, her sons Jason (Marla) and Justin, her mother, Marjorie, brothers Lester (Barb), twin brother Joe (Karen), Jesse (Judy), Gene, and Stanley and sisters Loretta (Glen) and Adele (Rick), brother-in-laws Anker, Stewart (Marilynn), and Bruce (April) and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her father Arthur Vowles in 1990 and her daughter Jennifer in 2005. Helena grew up in Victoria on Pandora Street and moved to the Lower Mainland to attend Bible College. There she met her husband Jim and they were married in 1972. They moved to Langley in 1974 where their children grew up and they set down roots. She worked for a number of years at Zellers and then returned to school to attain the job she had always wanted as Pharmacy Technician. She loved the work at Riverview and Mission Memorial Hospital. She went onto disability due to illness but always wished to be working in some way if at all possible. She later found fulfillment in assisting at her church library.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Langley Christian Middle and High School, 22702 48 Avenue, Langley.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to South Ridge Baptist Church for their library. Special thanks to Drs. Delair (her persevering GP for many years), Whitman and Cowie, and all of the medical staff at Langley Memorial for their excellent care in her last 18 days at the CCU/ICU.
