CAREY, Henry Roy. March 29, 1931 - May 17, 2008. Henry "Roy" Debienne Carey was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan to Henry and Rachel Carey. Roy spent his school years on a small farm at Methley, Manitoba.

At age 16, he left with his dad to work in the coastal forests of BC. He left the logging camps while in his 20's and began driving truck. It was here he found his calling. He eventually owned and operated his own tractor-trailer, hauling various commodities throughout Canada and the USA. In 1987, he met his longtime companion and co-driver Louise. Together they had five years of seeing the country and being paid for it. Roy was respected by his fellow drivers as a true professional and one of a dying breed. Roy retired from the industry when he injured his back in 1991. Roy resided in the Willoughby area of Langley, BC from 1973 to 1995.

In 1997, he realized a dream of making the Methley Beach area on the east side of Lake Dauphin into a campground for the enjoyment of nearby residents and travellers to the area. When not cutting grass or tinkering with tractors Roy could be found indulging in one of this three addictions: his dogs (Shelties - the only breed on earth), his coffee and the ubiquitous cigarettes.

He was diagnosed with emphysema in 2003 and the disease took its toll. The decision was made to move from Methley Beach into Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, March 2007. His health continued to deteriorate and he entered hospital on May 2, 2008 and passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 17, 2008.

Roy is survived by Louise, sisters Gloria Currie of Nelson, BC and Joyce Garraway of Burnaby, BC; granddaughters Tiffany and Chelsea Roisum of Richmond, BC; Louise's five children who referred to Roy as their stepdad; and amazingly two aunts and two uncles, nieces and nephews, plus numerous cousins and many friends.

Roy said, "I have no regrets, I've lived a good life."

According to Roy's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, Dauphin, Manitoba, had care of arrangements.
