November 25, 1937 - January 27, 2025
In loving memory ~
With profound sadness, the family of Ida Marjory Fallowfield (nee Stromberg) announces that she peacefully passed away on January 27, 2025, at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Ida will be greatly missed by her children, David (Lori), Pamela (Gordon), Jill and Michael (Kimberly), and her grandchildren, Damon (Jennifer), Kyle, Chana, Chloe (Justin), Anthony, Aidan, Marcus, Oliver and Elliott. She will also be fondly remembered by her niece Feena, nephew Joel and many dear friends. Ida was predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years, Gordon, and her brother Gordon Stromberg.
Born on November 25, 1937, in Camrose, Alberta, to Enock and Florence Stromberg, Ida was raised on a farm in the New Norway community. She often reminisced about her childhood, especially her time spent with her father, who died when she was young. After graduating as class valedictorian, Ida travelled across Europe then moved to BC to attend the Psychiatric Nursing Program at Essondale. At this time she met Gordon Fallowfield, who she married in 1960 and with whom she raised their four children in Langley. Many fun holidays were spent with friends and family at their Green Lake cabin.
Ida's involvement in the Langley community spanned over decades, from volunteering at neighbourhood associations and her children's schools, to her work on local campaigns and as an MLA assistant. Ida loved to explore the world and she visited dozens of countries over her lifetime, including Sweden, South Africa, China, Russia, and Israel. She also took her family on wonderful vacations to Disneyland and Cuba.
Heritage was important to Ida, and she spent years researching and chronicling her family history for posterity. Reading was another lifelong passion and Aldergrove library was a favourite place to visit, especially with her grandson Marcus. She loved spending time with friends and family, and visits with her grandchildren were cherished above all else.
Ida will be remembered as a woman who lived a remarkable life, and whose dedication to her family, friends and community will serve as her lasting legacy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 1 pm, at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre, 26770 29 Avenue, Aldergrove. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Ida to the Fraser Valley Regional Library at fvrl.bc.ca, it would be gratefully appreciated.
