SAWATSKY: Isaac. Ike Sawatsky passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on February 6, 2006, at MSA Hospital at the age of 86 years.
Ike is survived by his wife, Nita, of 63 years, his sons: Ron (Edna) of Aldergrove, Ed (Elaine) of Victoria, Bob (Colleen) of Abbotsford and daughter Ruth Dyck (Brian) of Victoria; grandchildren: Karen VanZyderveld (Paul), Sharon Zacharias (Bernie), Adam Sawatsky, Megan Edelamn (Steve), Colin Dyck (Sarah), Emily Dyck, Kelly Sawatsky, and Maren Sawatsky; great-grandchildren: Jared, Nathan, and Kara Zacharias. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Thiessen (Nick), sister-in-law Alice Sawatsky, brother-in-law Vern Friesen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter, and sister, Elfrieda Friesen.
Ike was born on October 4, 1919 in Ruckenau, Moloschna, Russia, the eldest of four children. He cam to Canada in September, 1924. He married Nita Enns on July 11, 1942. Ike raised his family on a farm in Aldergrove where he lived for 35 years. He moved to Abbotsford for retirement.
A viewing will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Friday, February 10, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at MacLure Road Mennonite Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at Clearbrook M.B. Church, 2719 Clearbrook Rd., Abbotsford at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ike's memory to the Mennonite Central Committee.
