CASSELS; Joan was born in Coventry, England July 29, 1920. She immigrated to Canada by ship at the age of 5 years with her mother Beatrice and father Bill Owen, brother Vic and sister May. From there, the family settled in Price Albert, Saskatchewan, then Drumheller, Alberta for a brief period before settling in Benalto, Alberta. As a teenager Joan lived with her father Bill and step mother Mable Owen, brother Philip and step sister Edna, Louise and Alice. Joan married David Alexander Cassels (Alex) on December 18, 1943. In 1944 Alex went overseas in the II World War serving in Italy and Holland. Joan was expecting her daughter Deanna when he commenced his tour of duty overseas. He returned in 1945 when Deanna was eight months old. Her son David was born in 1946. After residing several years in Red Deer, Joan and Alex moved to New Westminster in 1966 for a short time, finally settling into their dream acreage in Langley, in 1969. Alex passed away January 10, 1994. Most recently Joan was residing at Delta View Life Enrichment Centre where she received loving and compassionate care until December 26, 2006. Joan's family remains forever grateful to all at Delta View for their wonderful care of mom. Joan will be missed by daughter Deanna and Brian Horn, son David and Micki Cassels, grandchildren; Robin (Linda) Horn, Kevin (Corrie) Horn, Pamela (Jason) Omelaniec, Kerri (Bruce) Coles, Scott Cassels and great grandchildren; Emma, Dylan, Marlee, Jackson, Kody, Kia, Ethan and Elise. A visitation will take place on Thursday, December 28, 2006 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Henderson's Langley Funeral Home, 20786 Fraser Highway, Langley, B.C. A celebration of Joan's life will take place Friday, December 29, 2006 at 10:00 am at Henderson's Langley Funeral Home. Donations in Joan's name may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
