COVENTRY, Joan Elizabeth, (nee Southgate), passed away peacefully at Langley Memorial Hospital on Monday, February 2, 2009. Born in Essex, England on November 23, 1925, Joan, her husband Victor (predeceased 1996) and three of their children - Margaret, Janet, Robert - came to Canada in 1953 to join her parents William and Annie Southgate and her sister Beryl (Smith) and brother-in-law Dennis and family. In 1956, youngest daughter Elizabeth was born in Vancouver. Joan moved to Langley with her family in 1958, where she has made her home ever since. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her children, her sons-in-law (Tony and Gary), her daughter-in-law Debbie, her beloved grandchildren Ryan, (Carri), Reid, Jenine and Cole, and her nieces and nephews and families. Joan was looking forward to the arrival of her first great grandchild, but is content to watch over him/her from a better place. A celebration of Joan's life will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Henderson's Funeral Home, 20786 Fraser Highway, Langley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Children's Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
