January 19, 1941 – February 15, 2023
In Loving Memory ~
Karen Helen Burgess was born on January 19th, 1941, in North Vancouver, BC to Norman and Erma Wells. She attended Briercrest Bible College from 1959-1961 and it was there she met her husband, Albert (Bert). Bert and Karen were married on August 4, 1962 and Karen was a stay at home mom to their 3 children Ken, Brent and Marcia.
Karen taught ESL and was passionate about learning other cultures and languages. She loved music, was self taught in piano, and loved to sing. She was an avid sports fan, and enthusiastic quilter.
Everywhere they lived, whether in Saskatchewan, Alberta or BC, Karen and Bert built a strong community of friends and neighbours and were always extremely involved in their community church.
In the last few months, as Karen’s health deteriorated, she began to see the love and care come back to her as she and Bert were overwhelmed with support from their friends and church community at Mountainview Alliance.
Mostly though, Karen loved her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and nothing gave her greater joy than having her family together; most recently their 60th anniversary, Christmas 2022, and her last birthday in January.
On admission to Langley Hospice February 8th, her family stayed with her 24/7 until she went to be with her Lord February 15, 2023.
Karen was predeceased by parents Norman & Erma and brother Warner.
She is survived by her devoted husband Bert, children Ken (Jennifer), Brent (Barbie) and Marcia (Lyndsey Hamm); six grandchildren: Lexi Burgess, Liam Burgess (Teryn), Austyn Hamm (Luke Patterson), Chynna Friesen (Milton), Josh Burgess and Anna Burgess.
She is also survived by her twin sister Kathleen Roberts and many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Briercrest Bible College, Trinity Western University, and Friends of Israel are gratefully accepted.
An online guest book is available through Valleyview Funeral Home and Cemetery.
Celebration of Life will be held at MountainView Alliance Church in Langley on March 4th at 2PM.
