KENNETH EDWARD ALLENBY

JANUARY 3rd, 1922 ~ APRIL 27th, 2016

We sadly announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather Kenneth Allenby, age 94. Dad was born in Calgary, Alberta and married Betty Doreen (Ross) in 1947. Together they raised 6 children while serving in the RCAF stationed at Sea Island, B.C. and St. Hubert, Quebec. Dad was an airplane mechanic while in the Air Force and most notably worked on the Spitfire during the war. He was recently awarded the rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour for his service in WW2. They returned to North Delta when Dad retired from the Air Force and he took on his position as maintenance inspector at Lafarge Cement. Mom and Dad enjoyed the tranquility and peaceful life in Bowser on Vancouver Island as they began their retirement years. Missing the family, they moved to Chilliwack until 2011 when they settled into Bethshan Gardens in Cloverdale and most recently Dad lived at Avalon Gardens in Langley. Besides the joy that his children brought him, Dad loved to work in his workshop and was a master craftsman making things with wood. He was a perfectionist and wouldn’t stop until it was just right. He also spent many hours working on small appliances and watches for the Lions Club in Chilliwack, repairing the items that could be sold.

He is predeceased by his eldest son, Kenneth Terrance and third son, Brian Craig. He is survived by his adoring wife, Betty and four children, David (Sylvia), Colin (Christine), Kathryn and Patricia (Peter) along with 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Don McDonald and the staff at LMH, especially in the Convalescent Care and Maple Hill for the care they provided Dad. At Dad’s request there will be no service, he has generously donated his body to the UBC Body Program for medical research.
