PHILLIPS - Mabel Ethel

(nee Jones)

November 28, 1918 - February 14, 2009Born in Kamloops, BC, the eldest child of pioneers, Earnest and Rebecca Jones, Mabel moved, with her family, to Sumas Prairie, at the age of twelve. She was known to many of her school friends as 'Casey' Jones. After high school Mabel continued her education to graduate as a psychiatric nurse at Essondale. She was predeceased by her first husband Vernon Woods, and remarried, later, to veteran George Phillips. Mabel raised her family in Richmond & moved to Surrey in 1974. She loved life and, after George's death, kept active in many social activities, enjoying dancing, music and socializing with her many friends and acquaintances from the Surrey senior centres and square dancing clubs. When not on the dance floor, Mabel could often be found enjoying a music festival or travelling with companions, including her dear friend Al Gladwell. Mabel was predeceased by her brother, Hugh Jones, in August. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Gary, Larry, Sandra and Charlene; her nephews; and her many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 1 pm at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28 Ave, Surrey. A reception to celebrate Mabel's life will immediately follow.
