February 2, 1928 - January 8, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Cavell Bedard. Margaret passed away in her home in Aldergrove, BC with her family by her side.
Predeceased by her parents, John (Ralston) and Saloma (Farrow), husband Charley, son Len, brothers Garfield, Jack, Milton, sister Laureen and granddaughter Renée.
Margaret will be mourned and is survived by son Robert (Joanne), Stuart (Lisa), four grandchildren (Cameron, Lindsey, Riel, Jocelyn) two great grandchildren (Charli, Leo) and a large extended family.
Margaret was born in Penticton. Her family moved to Biggar, Saskatchewan and then to Red Deer, Alberta where she spent most of her youth. On her horse Bonny, with her dog Ruffy by her side, she explored the countryside along the Red Deer River. Her Dad affectionally called her 'my little mud-hen' as she loved the outdoors and working on the farm with a team of horses. Her family later moved to Enderby, BC where her father was a logger.
After she married Charley, they lived in many small communities throughout BC where his work in construction would lead them, making life-long friends wherever she went. They settled on a small acreage in Surrey in 1960 and one of the first things Margaret did was purchase two horses, sharing her love of horses with her 3 sons.
The family moved to south Langley in 1967 and bought a 36-acre dairy farm which they converted to a horse boarding facility known as 'Lochiel Stables'. She worked with many people in the equestrian community and was well-respected in the industry.
When Charley passed away in 1972, Margaret sold the farm and moved to a small acreage in Aldergrove with her boys, raising Standardbreds for the racetrack.
Margaret loved travel and adventure, making new friends wherever she went. But family was the biggest part of Margaret's life and many hours were spent visiting around the kitchen table with a cup of strong black coffee.
One of her greatest passions was her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, exploring the Fraser Valley and the Okanagan, visiting friends and family along the way.
She will forever be in our hearts and missed by her family and friends.
"There's a bridle hanging on the wall
And a pony in a lonely stall
You ask me why the teardrops fall
It's that bridle hanging on the wall"

A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
