In loving memory ~
Survived by George (Mr. Bill) husband of 62 years, daughters Gillian (Phil) and Linda (John), grandson Derek (Jessica) great grandchildren Holden and Rowan. In England, her brother Alan and nieces Wendy, Susan and Caroline. Also missed terribly by her best friend Cynthia Poole in Boston. And Dave Samuelson who held a special place in her heart.
Born in Amble, raised in Wooler Northumberland England and moved to a 1000 acre farm in Shillbottle when she married.
They bravely moved to Canada with no job prospects or house but landed in Vancouver and they were in the same house for over 50 years in Aldergrove.
Mom stayed at home raising the girls and serving up her famous 'chips' and Yorkshire puddings and meat pies. The weekend brought adventures camping with 'big yellow' the ugliest camper ever, boating on Pitt Lake, dances at the legion or listening to tall tales at the Taits.
You could find her in the vegetable or flower garden or tending to an injured animal ( the many farm cats and a crow), the casino or garage and thrift stores looking for a good deal. One of her happiest times was looking after Derek when he was little and created an everlasting bond. A great big thank you to her friend and neighbor Sonja Dewar who drove her around to stores and got her out of the house a few times a week as she never learned to drive.
Mom loved a deal so we will be setting up our own thrift store in the house with all that she left behind! One of mom's best buys was a golf club for a dollar. Dad gave her a hard time about it but secretly loved it. Unfortunately he didn't tell her the truth and she donated it back!
We didn't deserve her as she had the kindest of hearts and was surrounded by us heathens and our sarcastic jokes. She allowed herself one swear word a year which made us laugh instead of the desired effect. Ironically, shit was her last word so maybe she did get the last laugh!
Hopefully she is enjoying a gin and tonic with Thud (their last cat ) on her lap watching a great British drama.
Much thanks to all the health care workers who helped her in the last 2 years. You were kind and very much appreciated.
