In loving memory ~
Mark Douglas Stenberg passed gently at home on Saturday, October 15, 2022. He leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Mary Jane and his much beloved son Cameron (Sydney).
Mark was greatly loved by his mother, Joyce Baragon, three sisters Elaine DePedrina (Bruno), Susan Hille (Rick), and Julie Smit (John). He will also be mourned by his two brothers Eric (Cathy) and David (Mary) plus a huge number of assorted nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mark, in his early years, was an accomplished athlete playing both soccer and hockey. His love of hockey resulted in a lifelong commitment to the Vancouver Canucks from their very first game to the very last one he watched. He was a true fan, never giving up on them.
Mark also loved growing up on his family's chicken farm and valued his family deeply. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humour which kept us all laughing at every family gathering. He loved vintage cars, garage sales, making and refinishing things in his shop, golfing, car races, action movies and a good shot of rye.
Mark started his career as a welder, but an industrial accident at age 22 meant a career change. He went to Douglas College and then worked for many years as a Rehab Counsellor and Manager with the BC Paraplegic Association.
Although Mark's last years were a struggle, he met his challenges with incredible courage, patience and grace. Few people would have kept a sense of humour, but he did.
Thank you to the many nurses and personal care workers who supported the family through his long struggle. Special thanks to Jennifer Stenberg for always being there to make him laugh, Kelly Barrette for helping us manage the house, and to Ryas Barrette for eagerly joining Mark in watching both the action and western movies he loved (always at top volume). A special mention to Work Safe BC (Mirabelle, Tracey and Rene) and to Heather and Francine for keeping him happy, comfortable and well cared for.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Spinal Cord Injury BC.
